Required P codes (OBD II fault codes) for the HFM diagnosis (hot film air mass meter) cannot be displayed correctly. As a result faults in the HFM may not be detected. DME software error AFFECTED VEHICLES This Service Action involves the R55, R56, R57, R58, R59, R60, and R61 vehicles with the N18 engine produced from March 1, 2012 to March 3, 2016. This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI M12 04 16 dated April 2016
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before
customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please
perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
MODEL
All Cooper S and JCW models with the N18 engine
SITUATION
Required P codes (OBD II fault codes) for the HFM diagnosis (hot film air mass meter) cannot be
displayed correctly.
As a result faults in the HFM may not be detected.
CAUSE
DME software error
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves the R55, R56, R57, R58, R59, R60, and R61 vehicles with the N18
engine produced from March 1, 2012 to March 3, 2016.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked
either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key
Reader.
CORRECTION
Update the DME software
PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle using the latest version of ISTA/P (3.58.2 or higher).
Target integration level: R056-16-03-503 or higher

Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
Always connect a MINI
approved battery charger/power supply (SI M04 08 09).
