SITUATION

One of the following situations exists:
A. One of the following lights fail to operate (with no CCM and no fault codes in either FLM
(Front Light Module):
z

The cornering light

z

The inner low-beam headlight

z

The side marker light

B. The headlights cannot be turned on and the following additional conditions may exist:
z

CCM (Check Control Message) of “The lighting system at the front (left and / or right) is
faulty”

z

The battery may be discharged.

z

One or more fault code(s) may be present in FLM (left right side(s)):
– 8059BA Internal control unit fault / left
– 43012E Controller cannot be switched off / left
– 43010C Watchdog has triggered a reset / left
– 805B34 Internal control unit fault / right
– 44012E Controller cannot be switched off / right
– 44010C Watchdog has triggered a reset / right

CAUSE

Software error in FLM.
CORRECTION

If faults reoccur during reset and diagnosis, replace FLM on both headlights.
PROCEDURE

1. Check all front lights. Complete ISTA test plans for any lights that fail to operate or light
related fault codes that are stored.
2. Delete faults.
3. Disconnect Battery charger, ICOM, and battery.
4. Reconnect battery, battery charger and ICOM.
5. Using ISTA, recheck for applicable faults.
Were similar faults stored in the FLM?
NO - Further diagnosis is not necessary.
YES - Replace both FLMs.
Follow ISTA repair procedure:
– 63 12 021 REP "Remove and install both headlights"
– 63 11 760 REP "Replace the left frontal light electronics control unit (headlight removed)
(after vehicle diagnosis)"
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger / power supply (SI B04 23 10).

Vehicle Programming and Coding
If a control module was working properly and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization,
please claim this additional work with the applicable KSD2 labor operations under the defect code
listed above.
The diagnosis and repair of vehicles “arriving” with failed control modules or stored faults which
will cause them to fail during programming cannot be claimed under the defect code listed in this
bulletin.

Other Repairs
If other eligible and covered work is performed “prior” to programming and coding the vehicle or
as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test plans, claim this work with the
applicable defect code and the labor operations listed in KSD2.
