Charging Not Possible – KLE Fault 21E693
MODEL

F15 PHEV
SITUATION

The following conditions may exist:
z

Charging is either stopped mid-charge or will not initiate.

z

The corona ring around the charge port blinks red.

z

Check engine light is turned on.

CAUSE

Faulty software up to and including ISTA/P 3.58.3 (F025-16-03-504)
CORRECTION

Update to software in convenience charging electronics (SLE/KLE)
PROCEDURE

Only properly trained personnel, who have passed all applicable technical training courses,
should perform any maintenance or repairs on any Hybrid or Electric Vehicle. Work
performed by unqualified persons may result in severe injury or damage to the vehicle.
Additional information may be found in REP 61 00… Observe safety instructions when
handling electric vehicles.
1. Check for faults in SLE/KLE control unit.
Is FC 21E693 found?
YES - it is possibly an erroneous fault. Program and encode the vehicle with ISTA/P 3.59.0
(16-07-501) or a more recent version.
NO – follow the test plan instructions in ISTA/D.
2. Recheck the SLE/KLE control unit for faults.
Did FC 21E693 reappear?
YES - Follow the test plan instructions in ISTA/D.
NO – the vehicle has been repaired.
