N63R DME Fault Code 20A508 Turbocharger Coolant Pump Blocked

This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B11 03 16 dated April 2016.
MODEL

G12 (7 Series) With N63TU2 (also known as the N63R engine) and built up to 11/11/2015
SITUATION

A Check Control message is active for “Drive Faulty”.
The following fault code is stored in the DME:
z

20A508 - Engine cooler system: Shut down turbocharger coolant pump due to blockage

CAUSE

Auxiliary coolant pump for the turbocharger becomes blocked as a result of its failure.
CORRECTION

A. If the fault frequency counter is two or less:
z

Replace the auxiliary coolant pump for the turbochargers.

Or:
B. If the fault frequency counter is three and higher:
z

Replace the auxiliary coolant pump for the turbochargers; and

z

Replace both turbochargers;

z

Replace the coolant lines for the turbochargers and

z

Replace the oil lines (supply and return) for the turbochargers.

PROCEDURE

Replace the auxiliary coolant pump – Refer to Repair Instruction 11 53 090 Removing and
installing/replacing auxiliary water pump for exhaust turbocharger.
Replace both turbochargers, coolant lines and oil lines (supply and return) - Refer to Repair
Instructions 11 64 025 Remove and install/replace right exhaust turbocharger and 11 64 030
Remove and install/replace left exhaust turbocharger.

with water to create 50/50 mixture.

If invoicing KSD2 flat rate labor operation codes for other repair work results in overlapping labor,
invoice work time labor operation 00 50 000 for the additional time (FRU) minus the overlap
instead.
Work time labor operation code 00 50 000 is not considered a Main labor operation.
Eligible other repair work that will be claimed under a difference defect code do require separate
punch times.
On the repair order and in the claim comment section, please identify the labor operations labor
operation code 00 50 000 replaces and itemize the claimed FRU amount.
