FUEL GAUGE AND RANGE DISPLAY FAILURE
MODEL

SITUATION
At every engine start, CC message ID 988 “Fuel gauge and range display failure” is displayed.
The fuel gauge and range display are functioning properly.

CAUSE
Instrument cluster software

CORRECTION
Reprogram and code vehicle with ISTA/P 3.60.1 or ISTA 4.02.20.

PROCEDURE
1. Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA.
2. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 3.60.1 or ISTA 4.02.20 or higher.

G12 (7 Series)

Target integration level: S15A-16-11-502 or higher

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do
not have the latest software.
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).

comments section.
Vehicle Programming and Coding
When ISTA/P automatically reprograms and codes all the vehicle’s control modules that currently
do not have the latest software, and if control module failures occur during this programming
procedure:
