SERVICE ACTION: REPLACE LOW-PRESSURE
ELECTRIC IN-TANK FUEL
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before
customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please
perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves F22, F30, F30H, F32, F33 and F34 vehicles produced from July 2011
to June 2014.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked
either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key
Reader.

SITUATION
Affected vehicles may be equipped with a low-pressure electric in-tank fuel pump which can
become inoperative due to improper plating of certain subcomponents within the fuel pump.

PROCEDURE
Replace the low-pressure electric in-tank fuel pump as Repair Instruction 16 14 010, “Removing
and installing or replacing fuel pump.” Refer to the parts information section for the applicable fuel
pump part number.
If necessary, drain the fuel from the vehicle prior to performing repairs. Refer to Repair Instruction
16 00 005, “Draining and filling fuel tank.”

Important! Retention and Disposal of Used Parts
The part(s) replaced and submitted through this Service Action claim entry repair procedure are
the property of BMW NA.
Your center is responsible for the proper identification, storage and documentation of these parts.
These “used’ fuel delivery modules may be required to be returned to BMW NA. They should be
properly drained and stored until requested.
Attention: Used fuel delivery modules are classified as “dangerous goods” by the US
Department of Transportation (DOT), special preparation, packing and labeling for transport and
disposal is required. Refer to the attached document for the recommended draining procedure.
Your center is responsible for following all rules and regulations that apply to the proper
shipping and disposal of dangerous goods.
