SUBJECT

Service Action: Repair Corrosion Protection on the Trunk B+ Connector
MODEL

F30
Produced from 9/2011 to 10/2012
SITUATION

The corrosion protection on the outside of the trunk (back of rear right-hand wheel arch) around the battery
positive connector is insufficient, and leads to corrosion on the body.
AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves F30 vehicles which were produced from 9/2011 to 10/2012.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this
Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 645. If code number 645 has been punched out, the
campaign has already been performed. If code number 645 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize
the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the
system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
CORRECTION

Coat the area around the positive battery cable connection with underbody protection (cavity protection spray).
PROCEDURE

1. The positive battery cable connection is located at the back of the rear right-hand wheel arch. To gain access
to this area, partially undo the wheel arch cover as per ISTA Repair Instructions 51 71 041, “Removing and
installing/replacing rear left or right wheel arch cover.”

2. Ensure the area around the
connector is clean and dry in the
marked area, as shown in the
illustration.

3. Apply the underbody corrosion
protection (cavity protection
spray) over and around the
connector, as shown. The
connector should be completely
sealed.
4. Reinstall the partially removed
wheel arch cover.

645. After the vehicle has been checked and/or
corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-420) and:
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in
the middle of the label (1);

B. Punch out code number 645 (2), printed on the
label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the
old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in
the punched-out hole of the new label.

The repair described in this bulletin is covered under warranty regardless of time or mileage.
