Telephone: Phonebook Does Not Transfer to the Vehicle

SITUATION

The telephone book does not transfer to the vehicle after the pairing process is completed.
CAUSE

Software error in the head unit
PROCEDURE

Do not replace parts!
A software solution will be released in ISTA/P 2.49.1, expected in March 2013.
Until the release of ISTA/P 2.49.1, perform the following steps:
1. Duplicate and verify the issue.
2. Verify the phone is listed as a recommended device on
www.bmwusa.com/bluetooth
3. Perform a vehicle test and complete all Bluetooth-related test plans linked to stored fault codes.
Note: When the ISTA system message displays: Battery voltage only “XX.XX” V. Please connect charger.
Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section. This documentation is not
necessary when part of an approved Technical Service repair procedure; the battery charger is required to be
attached before performing the Vehicle Test.
4. Retest the functionality and verify the phonebook transfers.
5. If the phone book is transferred, then do not perform the remaining steps below.
6. If the phonebook still does not transfer, proceed with the steps below:


Submit a PuMA case to Technical Service for further assistance.



Set the PuMA case subject as: “Phonebook does not transfer.”

Once ISTA/P 2.49.1 is released, this Service Information bulletin will be updated.

Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a Main labor operation. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the
Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.
Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the
last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the “Search” button, and then enter the applicable
flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.
Even though work time labor operation code 65 99 000 ends in “000,” it is not considered a Main labor operation.
Work time (WT) labor operation 65 99 000 requires an individual punch time.
If a control module fails to program correctly or initializations are required, the additional work must be claimed with
separate labor operations under the applicable defect code listed above; refer to KSD2.
Other Repairs
If performing other ISTA diagnostics and the related test plans results with eligible and covered work, claim this work
with the applicable defect code and labor operations listed in KSD2.
Note: Please follow any TeileClearing (TC) or Diagcode (DC) requirements that may apply to this additional work.
