Summary

Central Information Display Intermittently Dimming or Flashing Off/On. Intermittently the Central Information Display (CID) dims and/or flashes off/on. There are two possible root causes for this issue. Cause 1: Voltage supply error from the Headunit-high (HU-H) to the Central Information Display (CID) when the display brightness is set to 60% or higher Cause 2: Calibration data for dimming the Central Information Display (CID) at high temperatures or bright sunlight is set incorrectly internally in the CID Affected Central Information Displays were manufactured from 02/01/2013 to 06/09/2014. The manufacturing date is included in the serial number printed on the parts label on the CID. IMPORTANT: The manufacturing date is written in the following way: dd mm yy Example: The manufacturing date of August 15, 2013 is printed on the label in the following way: 15 08 13

SITUATION

Intermittently the Central Information Display (CID) dims and/or flashes off/on.
CAUSE

There are two possible root causes for this issue.
Cause 1:
Voltage supply error from the Headunit-high (HU-H) to the Central Information Display (CID) when the display
brightness is set to 60% or higher
Cause 2:
Calibration data for dimming the Central Information Display (CID) at high temperatures or bright sunlight is set
incorrectly internally in the CID

Affected Central Information Displays
were manufactured from 02/01/2013 to
06/09/2014.
The manufacturing date is included in
the serial number printed on the parts
label on the CID.
IMPORTANT: The manufacturing
date is written in the following way:
dd mm yy
Example: The manufacturing date of
August 15, 2013 is printed on the label
in the following way: 15 08 13

CORRECTION

Perform a vehicle test using the latest ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) diagnostic software.
Always connect a BMWeBay logo approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).
1. With the ignition turned on, check the brightness setting of the Central Information Display.

2. In the Main Menu, select
Settings > Control display.
3. When the display brightness is
set to 60% or higher, reduce the
brightness setting to 50% or
below.

4. Retest the function of the CID.
5. When the CID no longer dims and/or flashes off/on, replace the HU-H head unit. Proceed with the
procedure as described for Cause 1.
6. If the CID still dims and/or flashes off/on, replace the CID. Proceed with the procedure as described for
Cause 2.
PROCEDURE

Cause 1:
1. Replace the HU-H head unit.
2. Reprogram the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.53.3 or later, or ISTA/P 3.53.3 or later.

1. Replace the Central Information Display.

If a control module or component was working properly and/or had no related faults stored prior to vehicle
programming and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization, this additional work must be claimed with
