SITUATION

Intermittently, the engine idle speed may fluctuate up and down or cut off under any of the following

circumstances, without any relevant faults stored in the DME memory:


While driving off throttle (coasting) and braking at speeds below approx. 10 mph



While idling, low-speed maneuvering such as parking, or if the steering is turned to the full-lock position

CAUSE

Unfavorable DME software
CORRECTION

Perform diagnostics using ISTA/D and work through the recommended test modules found using the path below:
Activities / Function Structure / 01 Engine / Engine electronics / [!] Current fault patterns / Engine stops/problem
starting engine
Depending on the vehicle and engine variant, program the vehicle using the latest version of ISTA/P only if the
current integration level is lower than what is listed below.
E70, E71:
E070-13-03-504 or a more recent version
E82, E88, E90, E92, E93:
E89x-13-03-504 or a more recent version
F07:
F001-13-03-503 or a more recent version
F10, F12, F13:
F010-13-03-503 or a more recent version
F25:
F025-13-03-503 or a more recent version
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the
latest software.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of
the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the “Search” button, and then enter the
applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.
If control module(s) fail to reprogram or initializations are required, the additional work must be claimed
using separate labor operations found in KSD2 under the defect code listed above.
