SUBJECT

Service Action: Manual Gear Shift Knob Loose
MODEL

F56 (Hardtop)
SITUATION

The manual transmission gear shift knob easily comes off the shift rod with minimal upward force.
AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves F56 MINI Cooper and Cooper S vehicles produced from December 2013 to August
2014.
First check if a Service Action label with a code number 69 is already attached to the B-pillar.
If a code number 69 has been punched out, the Campaign has already been performed and no further action is
necessary.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in the
"Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
CAUSE

The retaining tabs on the shifter knob do not hold securely to the shifter rod.
PROCEDURE

For vehicles that have already been delivered to Motorers, please call them and invite them back to the
dealership so that their MINIs can be repaired.
The shifter knob mounting pointing points need to be reinforced with an adhesive application. Use Loctite #495
instant-bonding adhesive for the following repair.
Source the adhesive locally or order through McMASTER-CARR® - mcmaster.com
(Order Loctite Instant Bonding Adhesive #495, 1.0 oz bottle, P/N 7520A12.)
Pull the shift knob and boot completely off the shifter rod.

Only apply the adhesive to the groove
(1) of the plastic sleeve on the shifter
rod. Do not over-apply the adhesive.

Apply one drop of adhesive (1) to each
side of the groove.

Reinsert the shifter knob (1), making
sure the shift gate schematic is in the
correct position. Use a padded glove to
knock the shifter knob back into
position.

Reconnect the harness connector for
the driving mode switch (1), and snap
the gear selector boot back into the

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number
69. After the vehicle has been checked and/or
corrected, obtain a label (MD20–064 and:
A. Emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in
the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 69 (2), printed on the
label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the
old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in
the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION

Covered under the terms of the MINI New Passenger Car Limited Warranty.
Vehicle comes in with a complaint of ‘Shifter knob has come off of shifter’.
