Service Action: Program Variable Damper Control (VDC) Unit
MODEL

F15 (X5)
SITUATION

Unfavorable tolerances for the plug-in connections of the wheel acceleration sensors may result in
fault code memory entries and the VDC being deactivated. If the VDC control unit identifies an
implausable value from one of the wheel acceleration sensors, the VDC will be deactivated and the
driver is informed by a Check Control message. The vehicle then defaults to the conventional
suspension.
AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves F15 vehicles produced from December 2, 2013 to August 23, 2014.
PROCEDURE

Perform the vehicle test and read the VDC fault code memory. If any of the relevant VDC fault
codes are present:
1. Fault codes stored for the front axle:
482940 – Wheel acceleration sensor – front left – sensor 1 – value – above threshold, and/or
482941 – Wheel acceleration sensor – front left – sensor 1 – value – below threshold, and/or
482943 – Wheel acceleration sensor – front left – sensor 1 – value – implausible, and/or
482944 – Wheel acceleration sensor – front right – sensor 2 – value – above threshold, and/or
482945 – Wheel acceleration sensor – front right – sensor 2 – value – below threshold,
and/or
482947 – Wheel acceleration sensor – front right – sensor 2 – value – implausible,
Replace both wheel acceleration sensors on the front axle with repair kit P/N 37 14 6
875 051 as per Repair Instructions REP 37 14 605 (vehicles up to 01/2015). Program and

code the entire vehicle using the latest version ISTA/P (2.54.1 or 3.54.1). Target integration
level: F025-14-11-502.

Fault codes stored for the rear axle:
482948 – Wheel acceleration sensor – rear left – sensor 3 – value – above threshold, and/or
482949 – Wheel acceleration sensor – rear left – sensor 3 – value – below threshold, and/or
48294B – Wheel acceleration sensor – rear left – sensor 3 – value – implausible, and/or
48294C – Wheel acceleration sensor – rear right – sensor 4 – value – above threshold, and/or
48294D – Wheel acceleration sensor – rear right – sensor 4 – value – below threshold, and/or
48294F – Wheel acceleration sensor – rear right – sensor 4 – value – implausible,
Replace all wheel acceleration sensors on the front and rear axles with both repair kits,
P/N 37 14 6 875 051 AND 37 14 6 875 052 as per Repair Instructions REP 37 14 605
(vehicles up to 01/2015) and REP 37 14 606 (vehicles up to 01/2015). Program and code the
entire vehicle using the latest version ISTA/P (2.54.1 or 3.54.1). Target integration level:
F025-14-11-502.
2. In case NO fault codes are stored in the VDC unit:
Program and code the entire vehicle using the latest version ISTA/P (2.54.1 or 3.54.1)
Target integration level: F025-14-11-502.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do
not have the latest software. For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to
CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger / power supply (SI B04 23 10).

Vehicle Programming and Coding
If a control module was working properly and it fails to program correctly or requires
initialization, please claim this additional work with the applicable KSD2 labor operations under
the defect code listed above.
The diagnosis and repair of vehicles “arriving” with failed control modules or stored faults
which will cause them to fail during programming cannot be claimed under the defect code listed in
this bulletin.
Other Repairs
If other eligible and covered work is performed “prior” to programming and coding the
vehicle, claim this work with the applicable defect code and labor operations listed in KSD2.
