SUBJECT

Rear Seat Heater Inoperative

With option 496 (Seat heating, rear)
SITUATION

The front passenger and both rear seat heaters do not work. The following fault codes are stored in the BDC
(Body Doman Controller):
D90C18 - LIN master I: Short circuit
D90C1A - LIN master I: Communication faulty
CAUSE

One of the rear seat heater modules has an internal fault, which interrupts LIN bus communication.
PROCEDURE

1. Perform ISTA diagnosis on the vehicle and troubleshoot any faults related to the seat heaters.
2. If none of the seat heaters is working, turn off the ignition and disconnect one of the rear seat heater
modules. Refer to ISTA Repair Instruction 61 35 095, “Removing and installing (replacing) control
unit/module for seat heating (left or right rear seat)” for access to the modules.
3. Turn on the ignition and retest.
4. If the other seat heaters start to work, replace the disconnected module.
5. If the seat heaters still do not work, reconnect the previously disconnected rear seat module and
disconnect the other rear module.
