NOISE FROM A/C ON POWER-UP AND VENT SELECTION

SITUATION
When selecting a desired outlet vent combination and on power-up (resetting of previous vent selection) of the
A/C air distribution system, a disturbing noise is heard (see video - tinyurl.com/y89pdvva).

CAUSE
Contact between directional flaps and distributor housing

CORRECTION
Replace housing when observed sound closely matches that in supplied video.

PROCEDURE
For conditions that are similar to the situation described:
1. Verify that start-up and vent selection produce sounds similar to that in the video.
Do both conditions produce demonstrated sound?
YES- Go to step 2.
NO – Continue diagnosis with ISTA.

3. Replace the A/C distributor housing, selecting one from the original part numbers shown below as
appropriate (replace with same part number). Refer to ISTA repair instruction REP 64 11 206 “Removing
and installing/replacing heating and air-conditioning unit” and REP 64 51 591 “Replacing evaporator”
