SERVICE ACTION: PROGRAM CONTROL UNITS (GWS)
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the
next time the vehicle is in the shop.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves G12 (740i, 740e iPerformance, 750i, M760i) and G30 (530i, 530e iPerformance,
540i, M550i) produced from June 13th to July 18th 2017
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR,
the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
SITUATION
After the engine start-up, gear (Drive or Reverse) cannot be selected. Message “No drive position change
possible” is displayed in the CC display.
Gear can be selected only after vehicle goes through the sleep cycle.
CAUSE
Unfavorable GWS gear shifter software
CORRECTION
Update the GWS software
PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle using ISTA Next 4.06.3x or higher.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the
latest software.
Always connect a BMW
approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).
