CONDITION SUMMARY:

SITUATION:
On vehicles with an exposed carbon fiber hood, the area surrounding the hood vents on the carbon
fiber hood may be delaminating.
CAUSE:
This may be caused during hood vent installation where the hood vents lift the laminate away from the
hood.
CAUTION:
This procedure must be performed by a Jaguar Land Rover-approved body shop.
ACTION:
Should a customer express this concern, follow the Inspection Procedure and, if necessary, Body Shop
Procedure below.

An allowance of $52.00 or local equivalent has been allocated to cover the cost of locally
sourcing the required paint materials. Claim using code ZZZ001.

The SRO may be claimed for body/paint repairs to exposed carbon fiber hoods and painted
carbon fiber hoods.

NOTES:
Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change;
those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to JLR claims submission
system to obtain the latest repair time.
The JLR Claims Submission System requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims
must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

Inspect the hood for delamination in the area surrounding the hood vents.
If similar delamination on the hood in the area surrounding the hood vents is not
evident, do not continue with this Technical Bulletin; the customer concern does
not relate to its content.
If similar delamination on the hood in the area surrounding the hood vents is
evident, go to the Body Shop Procedure below.

CAUTION:
Vehicles with an exposed carbon fiber hood only: this procedure must be performed by a
Jaguar Land Rover-approved body shop.

If the carbon fiber is damaged, the hood should be renewed; do not attempt this repair.

Remove and discard both hood vents; perform removal Steps 2, 12, and 13 only (see TOPIx
Workshop manual section 501-02: Front End Body Panels - Removal and Installation - Hood).

NOTE:
If the carbon fiber is damaged, the hood should be renewed; do not attempt this repair.

Inspect the area where the delamination is present for damage to the carbon fiber.
If there is damage to the carbon fiber, raise a TA (Technical Assistance) case for
further assistance.
If there is no damage to the carbon fiber go to Step 3.

Apply a strong masking tape to the chipped area and pull it away to remove any loose
material/contaminants.

CAUTION:
Do not cut into the gel coat or carbon fiber.
Use a razor blade to carefully remove the lacquer that has separated from the carbon fiber.

Clean the chip area using plastic cleaner.

Apply masking tape and paper to the surrounding area for protection.

Use a suitable brush to apply a clear adhesion promoter to the area.

Use a suitable brush to apply an approved high solids lacquer to the chip area and "build up"
to be higher than the surrounding area.

Allow lacquer to cure. ,

Lightly block sand the surface flat with 800 grit paper.

Apply additional coats as required to fill in the chipped area.

Final sand the top coat with 1000 grit paper.

Hand polish the area to a finish equal to the rest of the hood.

Install both new hood vents; perform installation Steps 1, 2, and 13 only (see TOPIx Workshop
manual section 501-02: Front End Panels - Removal and Installation - Hood).
