Summary
The finish on the cross members used in some of the Quantum VP trailers can have an effect on the ability of the upper cylinder support collar fasteners to retain torque. The finish can creep from under the head of the bolt over time, which can result in a loss of torque on the fastener. A new fastening technique has been developed to help distribute the load to reduce the effect of the cross member finish. In addition a new longer bolt was added to accommodate the addition of a locking washer.

Background
Quantum Virtual Pipeline (VP) trailers utilize a collar and
multiple fasteners to secure to the upper cross member to
support the cylinder assemblies in the trailer.
Condition
Some Quantum VP trailers have been found to have the
upper cylinder support collar fasteners to be loose or
broken.
Cause
The finish on the cross members used in some of the
Quantum VP trailers can have an effect on the ability of the
upper cylinder support collar fasteners to retain torque. The
finish can creep from under the head of the bolt over
time, which can result in a loss of torque on the fastener.
Correction
A new fastening technique has been developed to help distribute the load to reduce the effect of the cross
member finish. In addition a new longer bolt was added to accommodate the addition of a locking washer.

Upper Cylinder Collar Fastener Replacement
The following procedure is for replacement of the upper cylinder collar fasteners on all Quantum VP trailers
with painted or powder coated cross members.
This procedure is only applicable for trailer serial numbers ending in 0001 thru 0016
1. Remove two of the bolts (1) retaining the upper cylinder collar and discard.
2. Place the bolt plate (3) in position as shown.
3. Install lock washers (2) on two new bolts (1) and
hand start. Make sure the washer is oriented as
shown in the picture.
4. Tighten the upper collar bolts to 66 lb.ft. (90
N.m.).
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for the other two upper collar
mounting bolts.
6. Repeat this procedure for every cylinder in the affected trailers.
