CONDITION SUMMARY:

SITUATION:
The Transmission Control Switch (TCS) Park (P) button coating may fade or delaminate.
CAUSE:
This may be caused by chemical contamination.
NOTE:
2014-16MY vehicles only: refer to Special Service Message (SSM) 73875 for a customer
concern of mechanical failure of the Transmission Control Switch (TCS).
ACTION:
Should a customer express this concern, follow the Workshop Procedure and appropriate Diagnostic
Procedure below.

CAUTION:
Protect the panel from damage at position 'A' with a soft material.



Insert screwdriver at position 'B' to remove the park button.

Check the park button clips for damage.

Check the plastic and leather surround for damage.

Check the park button housing for any fragments of the park button as the component may
be damaged on removal.
Check the park button housing for any dirt, debris, or liquid contamination.

NOTE:
There is no clear 'click' on installation of the park button.



Install the new park button.

Test operation of the park button to confirm installation was successful.
Operate the park button several times; make sure that the park button operates
smoothly and returns to the raised position.

Check that the park button illuminates.
1 2014-16MY vehicles: go to Diagnostic Procedure 'A'.
2 2017MY-onwards vehicles: go to Diagnostic Procedure 'B'.

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 'A':

This Diagnostic Procedure is for 2014-16MY vehicles ONLY.
CAUTIONS:
A Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply must be connected to the
vehicle startup battery during diagnosis / module programming.
All ignition ON/OFF requests MUST be performed; failure to do these steps may cause
damage to vehicle control modules.

Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply to the vehicle
startup battery.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment must be loaded with
SDD154.00 Software Management Pack v299 (or later).
Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a
new session.

Follow all on-screen instructions, allowing the diagnostic equipment to read the VIN, identify
the vehicle, and initiating the data collect sequence.

Read and clear all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code).
1 Follow the on-screen instructions until the application finishes successfully.
2 Go to the next Step.

5

Exit the current session.
1 Select the Session tab.
2 Select the Close Session option.

Disconnect the diagnostic equipment and battery power supply from the vehicle.

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 'B':

This Diagnostic Procedure is for 2017MY-onwards vehicles ONLY.
CAUTIONS:
A Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply must be connected to the
vehicle startup battery during diagnosis / module programming.

Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply to the vehicle
startup battery.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment must be loaded with
PATHFINDER version 181 (or later).
Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a
new session.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment will read the correct Vehicle
Identification Number (VIN) for the current vehicle and automatically take the vehicle
out of Transit mode (if required).
Follow all on-screen instructions.

Select ECU Diagnostics.

Select All DTCs.

Select Clear all DTCs.
1 Follow the on-screen instructions until the application finishes successfully.
2 Go to the next Step.

7

Exit the current session.
1 If required, reset the vehicle to Transit mode.
2 Select the Exit icon.
