Description
This campaign is being issued to replace ISL G CM2180 engine piston rings and EGR
cooler in certain transit buses with factory installed steel pistons that may result in
increased oil consumption. This campaign authorizes the repair location to replace the
piston ring sets, clean the pistons, and replace the EGR cooler.

Action
In order to qualify for repair under this field action, an engine:
1. will be covered in the NEW/Base Engine Warranty period, and
2. must show as OPEN on QuickServe® Online for this field action.

Note : The ESN list is attached for reference.
After verifying that the engine meets the above requirements, perform the following
actions:

Note : Please refer to the ISL G CM2180 Service Manual, bulletin 4021649 for
detailed instructions.
1. Please refer to Procedure 001-054 in Section 1, to remove all 6 pistons from the
engine.
2. Please refer to Procedure 001-054 in Section 1, to remove the piston rings from the
pistons.
3. Replace the EGR cooler.
4. Please refer to Procedure 001-043 in Section 1, to clean all 6 pistons.
5. Please refer to Procedure 001-054 in Section 1, to install the piston rings on to the
pistons.
6. Please refer to Procedure 001-054 in Section 1, to install all 6 pistons into the
engine.
7. Operate the engine and check for leaks.

Material Disposition
Materials removed as a result of this field action must be scrapped.

Note : EGR cooler should follow the normal Recon return process.

required to complete the repair, but not listed, may be claimed if sufficiently
explained in the claim narrative.
