DEACTIVATION OF CONTACTLESS TAILGATE OPENING
AND CLOSING

What is new

MODEL
G30 (5 Series Sedan)

F48 (X1 sDrive 28i or xDrive 28i)

Vehicles with option code SA 322 "Comfort access"

SITUATION
Customer desires to have contactless tailgate opening and closing (Smart Opener) deactivated.

CAUSE
Function not included in software released.

CORRECTION
Reprogram and encode vehicle with ISTA 4.10.1x or I- level S15A-18-03-511 software or higher.

PROCEDURE
For conditions that are similar to the situation described:
Note: Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).

1. Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA.
Is vehicle programmed with ISTA 4.10.1x and I-level S15A-18-03-511 or higher software?
YES- go to next step.
NO – program the vehicle with ISTA 4.10.1x or higher. Go to next step.

Vehicles with I-level S15A-18-03-511 or higher connect with ISTA; select vehicle modification;
select conversion; then select deactivate non-contact tailgate opening.

Note that ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the
latest software.
Note: The other series with contactless tailgate the conversion will be in later ISTA release.

and Light Trucks.

latest software, and if control module failures occur during this programming procedure:

• Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this bulletin
with the applicable KSD2/AIR labor operations.
Other Repairs
Control module failures that occurred prior to this programming procedure and/or additional work is performed
as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test plans:
• When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim the control module-related and/or other repair work
using the applicable defect code and labor operations in KSD2/AIR.
