Only applies to vehicles equipped with:
SA 4U7 Fast charging DC
SA 4U8 Fast charging AC

SITUATION
The charging cable does not release from the charging socket after charging.

CAUSE
High voltage charging socket housing tolerance prevents the lock actuator pin from mechanically disengaging
from the charging cable.

CORRECTION
Modify the charging socket housing actuator pin hole as per the attachment.

PROCEDURE
1. Perform a vehicle test with ISTA and diagnose any charging system related faults.
• If fault code 805503 “Charging connection: locking of charging plug, open circuit” is stored, follow the
test plan recommendations to check the function of the charging lock actuator.
• The repair outlined in this SI will not correct fault code 805503.
2. After all stored electrical faults have been diagnosed, and the actuator electrically works properly, follow
the attached procedure to modify the charging socket housing.

WARRANTY INFORMATION
Procedure Step 1: If eligible and covered pre-work is performed as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics
and related test plans, claim this work with the applicable defect code and the labor operations listed in KSD2.
Procedure Step 2: In conjunction with and after performing “Procedure Step 1,” the following repair is covered
under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.

Overlapping Labor – Other Repairs (Procedure Step 1)
If invoicing the KSD2 flat rate labor operation codes for the other repair work results in overlapping labor being
claimed, invoice work time labor operation 00 50 000 instead for the additional time needed (FRUs minus the
overlap).
On the repair order and in the claim comment section, please identify the labor operations that labor operation
code 00 50 000 replaces and itemize the claimed FRU amount.
When work time labor operation 00 50 000 is used for work that will be claimed under a different defect code,
separate punch time(s) are required.

The following tools will be needed
in order to perform this repair.
A. 5 Star safety socket bit or
wrench
B. Vernier Caliper
C. File

Visually inspect the actuator
lock pin to see if it is binding in the hole
in the highlighted areas as shown. The
actuator pin should move easily when
activated.
2.
Did you find evidence of
binding?
YES- continue with Step 2.
NO – diagnose with ISTA for charging
system-related faults.
3. Remove the actuator for the
charging socket as per ISTA Repair
instructions “67 11 595”.
Note: Use the 5 star safety bit to
remove the 4 mounting screws.
Note: Before starting the
modification of the actuator pin hole
(step 3), ensure that the covers are
in place to prevent debris from
entering the charging port.

Note: When using the file to
enlarge the hole, be careful not
to come in contact with any
carbon body panel.

4. File the opening of the pin hole to
the following diameter (measure
with a Vernier caliper):
A = 7.9 mm – 8.3 mm
B = 5.8 mm – 6.0 mm
Note: the rounded corners must still
be in place. It is important that the
original shape of the hole be
preserved. Make sure that the edges
are deburred and all filing debris
removed.

The graphics shown are examples
of a good rework and poor reworks.

5. After the modification is complete,
reinstall the actuator for the
charging socket as per ISTA Repair
instructions “67 11 595”.
Note: Use the 5 star safety bit to
tighten the 4 mounting screws to
1.2 Nm.
