ABA Inspection Announcement and Procedure
STEMCO has identified Automatic Brake Adjusters (ABA) manufactured between
August 10, 2017 to May 4, 2018 (Date Codes 17222B-18124B) may have a
manufacturing assembly issue. Some of these adjusters may experience an anomaly
with the adjustment mechanism resulting in the ABA not fully adjusting the drum
brakes under certain operating conditions. This issue does not present a safety
concern regarding the ultimate function of the standard vehicle braking systems. It
is important, however, that you confirm if you have STEMCO ABAs in the date
range and, if so, that you check and monitor their performance. Here is an example
of a date code on an ABA for reference (VISIT STEMCO FOR TECH TIP #112:
