Ferrari ICP (Initial Customer Perception) Standard

Please note that, in order to help improve and standardize PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) procedure
management, we will be providing you with the guidelines used by the Ferrari Quality Division for
bodywork, paintwork, carbon fiber parts, and interior.
The possible visual demerit marks are summarized below:
Visual defect

Demerit mark

Description

Severe non-compliance

DM 20 FS

Anomolies that lead to a stoppage of bodyshell painting or
finishing until they are repaired, regardless of how many
there are.

DM 20

Anomolies that can easily be detected without the need for
special investigation when inspecting the vehicle, walking
around it, getting in/out, sitting in the passenger
compartment or opening/closing the engine/luggage
compartment lid. This defect requires repair work.

DM 1

Slight anomaly in clearly visible area or larger size defect
that is located in an area that is less frequently accessed
and therefore requires further investigation due to the
position or lighting conditions.

Severe

Significant

Vehicles will only be approved to leave the factory with an ICP (Initial Customer Perception) rating
of 20 or lower (summation of cosmetic faults).

- IMPORTANT An approved vehicle may have up to 1 defect with a demerit mark of 20 (DM20) or
20 defects with a demerit mark of 1 (DM1).

• Outside of vehicle - Inspection points

Some anomolies must be inspected as shown below (Fig. 1). The issues must be clearly visible
when standing 50 cm away from the anomoly in question and facing the inspected surfaces,
looking at an angle of 30° from left to right.

• Outside of vehicle - Lighting

The lighting in the inspection area must have the following characteristics:
-

Light distribution on the painted surfaces as shown in the figure - Fig.2;
Light/dark contrast;
Matte light element with black enamel reflectors or mirror reflectors;
Light element with acrylic glass (PMMA) longitudinal stripes to reduce dazzle and increase
the number of luminance areas;
Color temperature 6500 K.

• How inspected areas on vehicle are subdivided
Exterior
The bodywork of the vehicle has been subdivided into 3 different horizontal zones. The demerit
mark of a paintwork issue varies according to the zone in which it occurs. Figure 3 shows the
zones on a Ferrari California. Figure 4 shows the zones under the engine compartment and trunk
lids.

In addition, the areas approximately 10 cm around the “Ferrari” logos, the driver and passenger
side doors, and the area approximately 10 cm around the fuel flap (areas shown in green in the
figure below) should be considered A++ zones (the figure below shows the California model) Fig. 5.

The following highlighted areas of the vehicle interior should be considered A++ zones:
Near the steering wheel, instrument binnacle, air vents on driver side, around the navigation
system, button panel area on center console, door panel handle and armrest on driver side and
the area that extends approximately 10 cm around the Ferrari logos. (the figure below shows the
FF model) – Fig.17.
