Incorrect 5th Generation Controls Engine Brake Calibration Setting In Certain Freightliner Custom
Chassis Corporation (FCCC) Motorhomes May Cause Transmission To Not Downshift During
Engine Braking Event
MODELS AFFECTED:
2500MH Transmissions in FCCC Motorhomes with Allison 5th Generation Controls
NOTE: FCCC dealers are asked to coordinate with Allison distributors and dealers for repair as outlined in
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) ICI017-020.
Description of Complaint:
The transmission may not downshift during an engine braking event.
Background:
FCCC applied an incorrect 5th Generation Controls calibration setting for parameter 29080: J1939 SA: EBC1
Engine Retarder Selection in certain chassis. This incorrect calibration setting may prevent operation of the Engine
Brake Preselect input function. Parameter 29080: J1939 SA: EBC1 Engine Retarder Selection was incorrectly set
to value 254 (Autodetect). The correct value for this parameter in these chassis is 33 (Body Controller).
