DEFECT DESCRIPTION:
Certain CE Series school bus models may have been built with an incorrect slot location
and size for the vandal lock door header.
ELIGIBILITY:
This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles marked in the International® Service PortalSM
with FSC 18105. Also complete any other open campaigns listed on the Service Portal
at this time.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS
GOVERNMENT REGULATION: Engine fluid (oil, fuel, and coolant) may be a
hazard to human health and the environment. Handle all fluid and other
contaminated materials (such as filters and rags) in accordance with applicable
regulations. Recycle or dispose of engine fluids, filters, and other contaminated
materials according to applicable regulations.
WARNING! To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, park
vehicle on hard flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and install
wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from moving in both directions.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, always wear safe eye
protection when performing vehicle maintenance.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, ALWAYS wear protective
nitrile gloves and a respirator when working with paint. Avoid contact with any
part of the body including skin, eyes, mouth, nose, hair, ears and clothing.
NEVER ingest or inhale paint. Perform any procedure using paint in a well
ventilated area.

1. Park vehicle on flat surface.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brake.
3. Turn ignition to Key OFF position.
4. Install wheel chocks.
5. Locate vandal lock in entrance door casing.
6. Identify lock rod slot with incorrect location.

7. Measure distance from edge of lock rod slot (Figure 1, Item 2) to edge of casing
(Figure 1, Item 1).
a. If measurement distance is greater than 7.8 mm (.307 in), proceed to Step 8.
b. If measurement distance is 7.8 mm (.307 in) or less, proceed to Step 21.

8. Measure 7.8 mm (.307 in) from edge of casing (Figure 2, Item 2) toward lock rod slot
(Figure 2, Item 1) and make a mark.
9. Using a step drill bit, enlarge slot to measured mark.
NOTE: Sharp edges may cause wear to the lock rod.
10. Using grit paper or mechanical file, ensure edges of slot are clear of any burrs or
sharp edges.
11. Using a force gauge, check door locking resistance; force required to close door
should be less than 30 lb.
a. If force is greater than 30 lb, proceed to Step 12.
b. If force is less than 30 lb, proceed to Step 15.

12. Verify contact between bottom step tread and door leaf. If tread is not flush with
casing, proceed with Step 12.a. If tread is flush with casing, proceed to Step 13.
a. Remove fasteners from top of tread and set aside for reuse.
b. Lift up on tread to break epoxy.
c. Scrape old epoxy from step.
d. Remove old dolphin sealant from stepwell.
e. Ensure stepwell is free of debris and apply sealant adhesive to stepwell.
f. Trim tread as needed.
g. Insert step tread in stepwell and tap back until flush with front casing.
h. Insert previously removed fasteners.

Apply black sealant around edges of tread.

13. Verify guide block is seated correctly in top of door. If guide block is seated correctly,
proceed to Step 14. If guide block is not properly seated, proceed with Step 13.a.
a. Compress guide block to fully seat.
b. Apply black sealant over retaining clip
14. Verify bottom seal is flush with door sides.
a. Trim bottom seal flush with door sides.
15. Touch up paint:
a. For minor paint damage, proceed to Step 16.
b. For significant paint damage, proceed to Steps 17 thru 19.
16. Using touch-up paint, clean up any paint damage, proceed to Step 20.

17. Using acetone or other approved fluid, clean edge of slot.
18. Apply pre-prime to surface with paint damage.
19. Apply top coat.
20. Install bus body seal.
21. Verify vandal lock operation.
22. Remove wheel chocks.

WARRANTY CLAIMS

Warranty claim expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the
normal manner, making reference to Field Service Campaign 18105.
Section 7 of the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual contains further information
related to the submission and processing of AFC / Recall claims.
As with all claim submissions, items acquired locally must be submitted in the “Other
Charges” tab. The cost of any bulk items (such as a bag of cable tie straps, roll of wire,
barrel of oil, or tube of silicone) should be prorated for the cost of the individual pieces /
amount used during each repair.
To make sure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for
18105 activity must be submitted by 20 June 2019 or within the normal warranty period
for the component, if after 20 June 2019.
