Introduction
Some Ice (House) Cabin trailers may operate slowly and/or stop operating after five seconds of use. The
cause is the main power for the dual polarity solenoid, which is supplied by a 10AWG black/white bonded
wire pair protected by a 30A mini breaker, can be insufficient to handle the maximum capacity load. It was
found that when all three jacks operate under full load, the in-rush current can spike to 70A, then settle
around 55A for the rest of the extend/retract cycle. To accommodate the spike in current, a 6 AWG wire will
be connected from the battery to an 80A maximum capacity mini-breaker, then another 6 AWG wire will be
connected from the 80A mini-breaker to the dual polarity solenoid.

Preparation
Determine if the trailer is equipped with a 6 AWG ground wire. If equipped, go to Procedure section. If not
equipped, a wire will need to be installed from the battery to the 80A mini-breaker, then through the chassis
to the dual polarity solenoid.

Procedure
If the trailer is equipped with an available 6 AWG ground wire, do as follows:
1. Remove the seat to access the power distribution compartment.
2. Obtain a new 80A mini-breaker.
A. Remove and retain the terminal post nuts from the 80A mini-breaker.
B. Install the mini-breaker to the floor of the power distribution compartment with appropriately-sized
self-tapping screws.
3. Use a ratcheting wrench and socket to remove the nuts from the BATT post of the 30A mini-breaker.

Add a 6 AWG jumper cable (Fig. 2) from the BATT post to the 30A mini-breaker and reinstall the nut.

Attach the other end of the jumper cable to BATT post of the 80A mini-breaker and the 6 AWG wire to
the BATT post (Fig 3).

Reinstall the nuts on the 80A mini-breaker. The 6 AWG jumper wire will now function as the power
source for the dual polarity solenoid. The black/white bonded wire will become the 12V power source
from the tow vehicle.
8. Place the protective caps on the 80A terminal posts (Fig. 3).
9. Reinstall the seat onto the power distribution compartment.
10. Remove the covers from the 7-way and jack power distribution boxes.
11. Loosen cord connectors on the rear of both of the boxes (Fig. 4).

12. Using a 1/2" wrench, remove the nuts from the positive and ground posts of the dual polarity solenoid
(Fig. 5). Remove the black/white bonded wires, then pull them out of the back of the jack power
distribution box.
NOTE: Replacement of the dual polarity solenoid is not necessary, unless it is corroded or broken.
13. Snip the ring terminal off of the black/white bonded wires and pull the wires apart, strip the snipped
ends of both wires, then add a small ring terminal to the end of the white wire.
14. Remove the wire nut from the 6 AWG wire in the 7-way junction box and pull the wire through the cord
connector.
15. Insert the black/white bonded wires into the back of the 7-way plug junction box.
16. Attach the white wire with the ring terminal to ground in the back of the junction box.

Insert the black stripped wire into the wire nut, next to the existing wire (Fig.6).
Reapply wire nut to join the two wires.
Apply electrical tape to the wires and wire nut to further secure the connection.
Reinstall the 7-way junction box cover.
Add a crimp connector ring terminal to the end of the 6 AWG wire.

NOTE: If the 6 AWG wire is too short, an extension can be soldered onto the wire. Add enough shrink-fit
tubing to adequately cover the soldered joint.
22. Push the 6 AWG wire into the jack power distribution box and attach the 6 AWG wire to the POS
terminal of the dual polarity solenoid and replace the nut (Fig. 5).

23. Run a 6 AWG ground cable from the ground terminal on the dual polarity solenoid though the cord
connector on the back of the jack power distribution box.
24. Use a self-tapping screw and star washer to ground the 6 AWG ground cable to the frame (Fig. 7).

25. Reinstall the jack power distribution cover.
26. Tighten the cord connector and make sure all the wires running from the boxes through the frame are
protected by the wire loom.
