Reason for this Service Bulletin
Aston Martin has changed the Aston Martin Diagnostic System (AMDS) procedure to apply the Software Calibration
Number (SCN) code. The changed procedure is easier to use and has “dynamic validation” of the software and hardware
levels on a vehicle.
Do the procedure that follows to code the SCN onto a module if:
• A module is replaced.
• There are new vehicle options or regional market changes and Client Services tell you to do so.

Workshop Procedure
CAUTIONS:

DO NOT APPLY SCN CODE TO AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) UNLESS IT IS NEW OR
CLIENT SERVICES TELL YOU TO.
MAKE SURE THAT THE MODULE SOFTWARE HAS THE NEWEST SOFTWARE RELEASE BEFORE
THE SCN CODE IS APPLIED TO IT. IF YOU DO NOT, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE SCN CODE WILL
NOT BE ACCESSED CORRECTLY.
CONNECT THE AMDS 2.0 EQUIPMENT TO AN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY WHEN YOU DO THE
PROCEDURE THAT FOLLOWS. IF THE LAPTOP BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE
SOFTWARE UPDATE, THE UPDATE CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MODULE.
YOU MUST CONNECT A BATTERY CHARGER TO THE VEHICLE BEFORE YOU DO DIAGNOSTIC
PROCEDURES. IF THE VEHICLE BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE PROCEDURE, THE
SOFTWARE UPDATE CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MODULE.

Notes:

Make sure that the AMDS 2.0 software has updated to the latest version. The AMDS 2.0 software will
need a good Internet connection (minimum broadband speed of 2 Mbit/second) to make sure that
the software is updated correctly.
A high output battery charger (minimum of 80 A) is necessary to meet the demand of the radiator
cooling fan. The battery charger must also be compatible with Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) type
batteries.

1.

Remove the armrest (standard armrest). Open the armrest to position “1” (powered armrest).

2.

Remove the end cap from the vehicle key. Install the vehicle key in the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS).

3.

Turn the vehicle key clockwise to set the ignition to “On”.

CAUTION:

MAKE SURE THAT THE IGNITION STAYS SET TO “ON” DURING THE FULL PROCEDURE.
IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THE POWER SUPPLY TO SOME COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE’S
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAN SHUT DOWN.
IF THE SYSTEM VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE PROCEDURE, THE SOFTWARE UPDATE CAN
FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SYSTEM.

Note:

The “Start” button is disabled when the vehicle key is used to start the engine.

4.

Connect the AMDS 2.0 equipment to the vehicle. Make sure that the laptop is connected to an electrical supply
during the procedure.

5.

When the AMDS 2.0 software has identified the vehicle’s VIN, navigate to the home page of AMDS 2.0.

6.

Select ECU Coding (refer to Figure 1).

Select ‘Get coding from AML Server” (refer to Figure
3).

12. Select “Yes” (refer to Figure 7).

When the procedure is completed do a check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored by other modules.

16.

Erase all the DTCs that the modules have stored.

17.

Set the ignition to “Off”.

18.

Remove the vehicle key and install the key cap.

19.

Install or close the armrest.

20.

Disconnect the AMDS 2.0 equipment and the battery charger.
