SERVICE ACTION: REPOSITION DOOR WIRING HARNESS
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the
next time the vehicle is in the shop.

MODEL
G12 (7 Series)

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves (316) 7 Series vehicles produced from 3/2/2018 to 3/15/2018.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR,
the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

SITUATION
Door wiring harnesses must be inspected in both front doors.

CAUSE
Door wiring harnesses may be installed such that the harness can be damaged by contact with sharp edges of
the door brake.

CORRECTION
Adjust the placement of the door harness and, only when damaged, replace the harness.

PROCEDURE
1. Following the instructions in REP 51 33 070 Replacing the left front door module bracket or 51 33 072
Replacing right front door module bracket, perform the following steps:
1. Remove the window channel strip on the front door
2. Remove the mirror triangle cover
3. Remove the decorative strip from the door trim panel
4. Remove front door trim panel
5. Remove the module bracket from the front door
Note: Do not replace the door module bracket (Main Work)

2. Inspect the wiring harness for chafing, near the door brake (left side shown).

Is there evidence of chafed or exposed wiring?
YES- replace the harness and then go to Step 3.
NO – go to Step 3.

3. Identify which wiring harness installation version this vehicle contains.

Is the wiring harness looped-over and taped together inside
the door (as shown)?
YES- go to Extra Length Procedure, below.
NO – follow Short Wiring Harness Procedure

Short Wiring Harness Procedure

A. Detach the cable strap using a pair diagonal cutters.

B. Insert a new cable strap in the anchor point.

C. Remove the harness and check for freedom of movement at the
indicated points (1 and 2).

D. Pull any slack in the harness into the inside of the door.
E. Tighten the cable strap (3) around the harness.

F. Go to Step 4 below.

Extra-Length Wiring Harness Procedure

A. Remove the tape holding the wiring harness into a loop.

B. Reposition the harness to make the loop longer (pull some of
the slack in the harness into the loop).

C. Retape, making a larger loop in the wiring harness.

D. Mount the wiring harness loop (2) out of the range of motion of
the door brake, ensuring adequate freedom of movement (3).
E. Go to Step 4 below.

4. Returning to the instructions in REP 51 33 070 Replacing the left front door module bracket or 51 33 072
Replacing right front door module bracket, start with Step 5 and perform the following steps:
5. Installing the module bracket on the front door
6. Install front door trim panel
7. Install the decorative strip on the door trim panel
8. Install the mirror triangle cover
9. Installing the weather strip on the front door
