Objective

The purpose of this Application Note is lo provide a solution to a specific appheation of ihe
Freedom Xt inverter with an Onan” Generator in which the generator's AC output is beng
disquahiied by the inverter when a mcrowave Oven is run as a load in the motor home
power system

Scenario ‘When the generalor ss running and the Freedom Xi is passing power to a Microwave Which Is
cooxing, the generator AC wavelorm's erratic distortion (low power quality) causes the
Freedom Xi to disqual'y the AC power

Resultant In mast cases, the inverter will power the microwave with no disruption in microwave
operation. Sometimes, the microwave will shut of dunng trans‘er from generator power to
inverter power

Application Note

Solution
A 4 ul capacitor on the generator's AC output line circuit before the Freedom Xi's
AC input can fitter the erratic waveform enough to prevent inverter
disqualification
Important: Before imolementation ensure you Nave access to the generators output
wires anc inverters AC inout wires in a junction box near the inverter

© Screwdriver with appropriate tip for wiring access

Completion Time

Most floor plans can be completed in 10-20 minutes. For the rare floor plan where
the inverter is below a rear jacxknife sofa, the solution may taxe as much as 45
minutes.

4. Ensure
© the shore cord is unplugged,
© the generator is off, and
© the inverter is turned off
2 Locale the Freedom Xi inverter and its wiring junction box

Most floor pians have this near the rear passenger side wheel well

Some floor plans require a plywood ‘floor to be removed to access the
junction box

3. Loosen the two screws on the junction box cover

4. Rotate the cover to remove and set aside

5. Pull the black and white wares out by their wire nuts

6 Identify the input wires

NOTE: input wires are wrapped in
white electrical tape

Output wires are wrapped in
orange electrical tave

7. Remove the wire nut on the AC input Line (black) wires

The AC input tine has two
black wires in the wire nut

8. Abgn the capacitor's black wire with the AC input wires (three in the bundie)

Pull on the wires (1 lb-ft
force) to ensure they are
seoure in the wire nut

10. Remove the wire nut on the AC input Neutral (white) wires (there are two in
the wire nut)

11. Align the capacitor's white wire with the AC input wires (three in the bundle).
12. Reapply the wire nut on the three wires.
Pull on the wires (1 lb-ft force) to ensure they are secure in the wire nut.

13. Carefully push the wires back into the junction box ensuring the wires do not
slip out of the capacitor or the wire nut.

16. Reassemble the seat (including the plywood flooring, i! necessary)
