SUBJECT: FL641 – Interim Recall Notice
This letter is to inform you that, an interim recall notice is being mailed to customers with vehicles involved
in an upcoming recall – FL641, Freightliner Cascadia Daytime Running Lights. The notices are included on
the following pages for reference.
A software update is being developed and validated. Repairs will begin when this is completed and the
update is available.
There is no action for dealers to take at this time. Customers are being advised not to use the “Turn-Tip”
function in the interim.

Interim Recall Notice

Subject: Freightliner Cascadia Daytime Running Lights
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner Trucks Division, has decided that a defect
which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on two specific groups of Freightliner Cascadia vehicles configured
with turn signals that function as daytime running lights (DRLs), SAMCAB software version 6.2, and the “Turn-Tip”
function activated. The first group was manufactured with this configuration May 7, 2012, through March 2, 2013.
The second group received this as part of a software update during a service visit. (Vehicles not configured in this
manner are not affected.)
The “Turn-Tip” feature allows the turn signals to flash three to five times after the turn signal lever is released if the
lever is held in an unlatched position for less than 500 milliseconds. On certain vehicles, due to an anomaly in the
SAMCAB 6.2 software, one or both of the DRLs may not reactivate for some period of time after the “Turn-Tip”
function completes its cycle. Failure of one or both of the DRLs to illuminate reduces the vehicle’s visibility to other
drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
The DRLs will resume normal operation if any of the following actions occur: the turn signal lever is held in the
unlatched position for more than 500 milliseconds, the turn signal lever is moved to a latched position, the hazard
lights are activated, the headlights are turned on, or the ignition switch status is changed.
This is the first of two notices you will receive regarding this subject. This letter is to inform you of an upcoming
Recall to correct the issue noted above. A software update must be developed and validated. Until the final
remedy is available, DTNA recommends that you do not use the “Turn-Tip” function. You may continue to operate
your vehicle in the interim.
The second notice will inform you when the final remedy is available. When you receive the second notice, please
contact your authorized Daimler Trucks North America dealer to schedule the Recall for your vehicle.
If you do not own the vehicle that corresponds to the identification number(s), which appears on the Recall
Notification, please return the notification to the Warranty Campaigns Department with any information you can
furnish that will assist us in locating the present owner.
