DD Platform Fuel Injector Cup Seals

This letter supersedes 13 TS-22
ISSUE
Injector cup seals installed in DD engines can fail and cause coolant leaks or crosscontamination with fuel. The seal material was improved with new seal
P/N: A0249976445, which replaced former seal P/N: A4729970745, beginning with
DD15 engine serial number 472903S0107259 built on December 1, 2011, and DD13
engine serial number 471903S0107488 built on December 5, 2011.
REQUIRED ACTION
Failed fuel injector cup seals are the primary cause of fuel in coolant/coolant in fuel
complaints. Reference the EPA07/10/GHG14 DDEC VI/10 Electronics and
Troubleshooting Manual (DDC-SVC-MAN-0084) and the chapter titled “Diagnostic
Tests” for the section “Fuel in Coolant/Coolant in Fuel”. If an injector cup seal has failed,
replace all six injector cup seals. Reference the EPA07/10/GHG14 Fuel Manual (DDCSVC-MAN-0082) and the chapter titled “Fuel Injector Cup” for repair procedures.
Additional seals in the cooling system must also be replaced due to fuel-in-coolant
contamination. See Table 1 for a list of parts to be replaced.
The cooling system should also be flushed and filled with new coolant after the seals are
replaced. Reference the “Coolant Selections” manual (DDC-SVC-BRO-0002) and the
section titled “Detroit Diesel Genuine Coolant Engine Products” for the current list of
cooling system cleaners.

the Primary Failed Part (PFP) number.
