Description of Revisions: This bulletin replaces the version dated
March 2009. Harness ordering instructions are revised.

General Information
Beginning with model year 2007 engine wiring, Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) changed the way wiring
harnesses are assembled for manufacturing. A commodity harness is put together by one of DTNAs wiring vendors and it is built using vehicle specification data, which is electronically sent to the vendor. This data includes
information from several of the vehicle modules, along with pin-out information for each of the connectors. The
vendor then takes all of the vehicle specification data for the wiring and breaks it into individual wiring harness
bundles called commodities. Depending on the vehicle model, these commodity harness types can include engine, floor, overhead, chassis aft, chassis forward, dash, and front wall.
For example, a 2007 Acterra engine commodity harness may include wires and kits from all of the modules
listed in Table 1.

In PartsPro®, the bill of materials (BOM ) for each of the listed modules list varying numbers of wires, and possibly a kit, which make up only a portion of the commodity harness. For production, the harness vendor takes
the information from the many modules that relate to each of the commodities and puts them together using a
layout diagram, which is also a drawing number listed in PartsPro. The layout diagram begins with L06-. Prior to
these commodity harnesses, an assembly harness was used.
The assembly harness included most of the wires for each commodity, along with a few overlays for optional
features. The assembly harness was listed in one of the main modules and could be located and ordered using
PartsPro. With the new commodity harness design, there is no longer one part number listed that includes the
majority of wiring making up the main harnesses. Therefore, the parts and service technicians can only find and
order the individual wires listed in each of the modules. This makes it very difficult to know all of the possible
modules to look in for each commodity, and even if all of the individual wires and kits could be found, there is
currently no way to order them as a complete assembly through PartsPro and Paragon.

Ordering an Assembled Commodity Harness using EZWiring
1. Open the EZWiring application, either in PartsPro or AccessFreightliner. See Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
2. Enter the vehicle serial number.

4. Enter the part number (Sxx-xxxxx-xxx) exactly as it appears on the Commodity Harnesses Report. See Fig.
4. The part number can be ordered through Paragon

IMPORTANT: Part numbers received from Customer Service with a format of FTL Sxx xxxxx xxx will
be replaced by a new format Sxx-xxxxx-xxx. Currently, both part number formats are still in use. If a
FTL Sxx xxxxx xxx part number is provided, it is the part number to order in Paragon unless it is
superseded. DO NOT change the format of the FTL Sxx-xxxxx-xxx part number to match the
Sxx-xxxxx-xxx format. These are not the same parts. For example, harness FTL S80 12345 678 is
not the same as S80-12345-678.

Ordering an Assembled Commodity Harness without Using EZ Wiring
1. Determine which commodity is required. Find the module of the vehicle being worked on in Table 2 to determine which commodities are available, then use PartsPro and look in these modules for an L06-number.

3. Then call 1-855-253-0422 and push "0" to go to voice mail. Slowly read off the information. To talk directly
to a representative, hold on the line instead of pressing "0" to be placed in the queue.

IMPORTANT: Do not place an order in Paragon if ordering a complete commodity harness. Customer
service will place a drop-ship order with the wiring supplier for the commodity harness. An order in
paragon consists of several part numbers determined by engineering to make up the commodity
harness. Although the order consists of several part numbers, the harness will be delivered as one
assembly without its own part number.
4. To find the individual harness piece parts that make up a commodity harness, use the EZWiring harness
report section to view most of the components that make up the commodity harness. Individual piece parts
of the commodity harness can be ordered, however, to order a completely assembled commodity harness
call the number and use the instructions listed above. Do not order all the individual harness parts listed in
the EZWiring harness report if a complete commodity harness is needed.

NOTE: A06-type harnesses can still be ordered through the Paragon system. Make sure to use
EZWiring drawing viewer to verify the part. If a connector is drawn with dashed lines, it does not
come with this assembly. The A06- drawings also give connector part number information. The L06drawing, which road maps the various harness legs, can also be viewed in the EZWiring drawing
viewer.
NOTE: If the vehicle is modified, it is recommended to add a global annotation in PartsPro per Parts Technical
Bulletin 00-009.
