Some customers may comment on an oil leak and/or a oil burning smell.
GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. Engineering has a
need to gather information on vehicles PRIOR to repair that may exhibit this condition. As a result,
this information will be used to "root cause" the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix.

Cause

Correction
If you encounter a vehicle with the above concern, complete the following steps:
1.

Verify that oil is leaking from the camshaft cover or camshaft cover seal.

2.

Photograph camshaft cover oil leak, providing good quality pictures that show location and severity of oil leak.

3.

Create a Field Product Report and add the pictures to the report.

4.

Reference PIE0449 in the product report.

5.

Refer to the latest version of Corporate Bulletin Number 02-00-89-002 (U.S. Dealers) or 10-00-89-006 (Canada Dealers) for details on
submitting a product report.

6.
