Summary

This Technical Service Bulletin describes the verification and resolution a potential wiring issue where the ignition coil and low engine oil level sensor leads were wired together instead of being wired to the correct leads on the control harness. For liquid propane (LP) units: No physical symptoms are present. However, the low engine oil level sensor may not function as intended, potentially resulting in nuisance shutdowns or backfiring. For gasoline units: The generator set will not immediately shut down when the STOP button is pressed on the control panel or on the remote START/STOP switch. Once the STOP button has been pressed, the unit may run for up to three minutes before shutting down. Additionally, the low engine oil level sensor may not function as intended, potentially resulting in nuisance shutdowns or backfiring.

Product Affected
A specific set of HGJBB Generator Sets produced in March and April of 2018 have been
identified to potentially have a wiring issue. A list of the potentially affected serial
numbers is included at the end of this document.
Issue
Symptom:
• For liquid propane (LP) units: No physical symptoms are present. However, The low
engine oil level sensor may not function as intended, potentially resulting in nuisance
shutdowns or backfiring.
• For gasoline units: The generator set will not immediately shut down when the STOP
button is pressed on the control panel or on the remote START/STOP switch. Once
the STOP button has been pressed, the unit may run for up to three minutes before
shutting down. Additionally, the low engine oil level sensor may not function as
intended, potentially resulting in nuisance shutdowns or backfiring.
Root Cause:
• During production, the ignition coil and low engine oil level sensor leads were wired
together instead of being wired to the correct leads on the control harness. Pictures

• On LP units: Pressing the STOP button will engage the fuel shutoff solenoid valve
and shut the generator down on command.
• On gasoline units: Pressing the STOP button will turn the fuel pump off, but the
generator will continue to run until the fuel in the carburetor bowl is depleted.
Therefore, the generator may take up to three minutes to shut down after the STOP
button has been pressed.

Verification/Confirmation
For both LP and gasoline units: Visually inspect the wires to ensure they are properly
connected. The black ignition coil wire should be connected to the white wire marked
P1-4 (the white wire will also be marked S1-1). The orange oil level sensor wire should
be connected to the white wire marked P1-6 (the white wire will also be marked S2-1).
The black ignition coil wire and the orange oil level sensor wire should not be connected
to each other. If the black and orange wires are found to be connected to each other,
follow the steps given in the resolution section of this document to correct the issue.
Additionally for gasoline units only: If it is discovered that the generator does not shut
down immediately after pressing the STOP button, this may be an identifier for incorrect
wiring. If the generator does not shut down immediately on command, allow up to three
minutes for the generator to shut down, and then follow the steps given in the resolution
section of this document to correct the issue.
Resolution
For both LP and gasoline units: Connect the black ignition coil wire to the white wire
marked P1-4 (the white wire will also be marked S1-1). Additionally, connect the orange
oil level sensor wire to the white wire marked P1-6 (the white wire will also be marked

S2-1). After both wire connections have been made, start the generator set, allow it to
run for a short period of time, and then ensure the generator shuts down when the STOP
button is pressed.
