SERVICE ACTION: REPLACE THE LIGHT ELECTRONICS
CONTROL MODULES ON BOTH SIDES
New information provided by this revision is preceded by this symbol

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure
the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI M63 03 14 dated March 2018

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in
AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
Owners will be notified by First Class mail about the Service Action and will be instructed to bring their
vehicles in for a free repair when parts are available.

SITUATION
The FLE (Front Light Electronic) module on both sides malfunctions.

CAUSE
The transistors installed in FLE have a higher internal resistance and may fail when under load. This failure
may occur mainly after start up (idling), when the vehicle voltage is the lowest and the load placed on the
transistors the highest.

CORRECTION
Replace both FLE’s control modules – left and right.

PROCEDURE
1. Follow ISTA repair REP 63 11 760 “Replacing control unit, Frontal Light Electronics left” and REP 63
11 761 “Replacing control unit, Frontal Light Electronics Right”.
2. Program/encode the vehicle after replacing the FLE_L and FLE_R.

A. Connect a MINI-approved battery charger/power supply (SIM04 08 09) to the vehicle.
B. Connect the vehicle with ISTA 4.09.2x or higher and start a new session and I-Level F056-17-11540 or higher.

Note: Select the FLE_L and FLE_R from control unit as replaced. Then ISTA will automatically
reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software. For information
on programming and coding with ISTA, refer to CenterNet / TIS / Technical Documentation / Diagnostics and
Programming / Programming Documentation.
3. ISTA will determine the measure plan for programming/coding of control units where appropriate.
4. ISTA will required to carry out a vehicle test and delete any fault memory entries from the rework.

During the same workshop visit, if a vehicle also requires another Technical Campaign or repair that also
includes programming and encoding the control units, the programming procedure may only be invoiced one
time.

This Service Action repair qualifies for Alternative Mobility Solution (AMS) expense reimbursement, claim this
item under the Defect Code noted above as follows:
• Sublet Code 2 - Itemize the AMS sublet amount claimed on the repair order and in the claim comment
section.
Please refer to SI M01 01 17 for additional information.
Vehicle Programming and Encoding
A. The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which
do not have the latest software i-level. If one or more control module failures occur “during” this
programming procedure:
• Please claim this “consequential” control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in
this bulletin with the applicable KSD2/AIR labor operations.
B. For control module failures that occurred “prior” to performing this programming procedure:
• When “covered” under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work
using the applicable defect code and labor operations in KSD2/AIR.
