DESCRIPTION
This TSI contains the information to help in ordering parts for partial or entire replacement of the crankcase
breather assembly. This procedure is an addendum to the crankcase breather installation procedure in the
2010 MaxxForce® DT, 9, and 10 Engine Service Manual (EGES 450).
NOTE: For complete instructions to replace crankcase breather assembly, refer to Crankcase,
Crankshaft, and Camshaft section of 2010 MaxxForce® DT, 9, and 10 Engine Service Manual (EGES 450).

Description

SERVICE PROCEDURE
WARNING: Park vehicle on hard flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and
block the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving in both directions. Failure to do so may result
in property damage, personal injury, and / or death.

WARNING: If the vehicle must be raised, do not work under the vehicle supported only by
jacks. Jacks can slip or fall over, potentially resulting in property damage, personal injury, and / or
death.

WARNING: Always wear safe eye protection when performing vehicle maintenance. Failure
to do so may result in personal injury and / or death.

WARNING: Keep flames or sparks away from vehicle and do not smoke while servicing
the vehicle’s batteries. Batteries expel explosive gases. Failure to do so may result in property
damage, personal injury, and / or death.

WARNING: Remove the ground cable from the negative terminal of the battery box before
disconnecting any electrical components. Always connect the ground cable last. Failure to do so
may result in property damage, personal injury, and / or death.

1. Bring vehicle into shop and park on flat surface.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral, set parking brake, and install wheel chocks.
3. Unlatch and open hood.

4. Locate Navistar part number (Figure 1, Item 2) on crankcase breather (Figure 1, Item 1) above Alfdex part
number (Figure 1, Item 5), date (Figure 1, Item 4), and batch number (Figure 1, Item 3).
NOTE: For complete instructions to replace crankcase breather assembly, refer to Crankcase,
Crankshaft, and Camshaft section of 2010 MaxxForce® DT, 9, and 10 Engine Service Manual (EGES 450).
5. Replace service kit accordingly:
a. Replace crankcase breather with part number 7092631C**, using Service Kit 1886472C** for top
half breather assembly replacement.
b. Replace crankcase breather with part number 1889632C**, using Service Kit 7093618C** for entire
breather assembly replacement.
c.

Replace crankcase breathers with part number 1880560C**, using Service Kit 7093619C** for entire
breather assembly replacement.

6. If installing Service Kit 7093619C**, proceed to Step 7. If installing kit 1886472C** or kit 7093618C**,
proceed to Step 9.

7. Cut one-piece coolant return tube (Figure 2, Item 2) at designated location (Figure 2, Item 1).
8. Remove coolant return tube from coolant distribution housing and oil cooler module, and discard.

9. Install two-piece coolant return tube (Figure 3) onto crankcase breather.
10. Close and latch hood.
11. Remove wheel chocks.
