Title: 9900i poor hood fit
Applies To: 9900i
DESCRIPTION
Several issues have been identified in assocation with poor hood fit on the 9900i. The hood is mounted incorrectly due to
improper placement of the front crossmember. The result is that the hood is too far forward resulting in large gaps to the
cab and modesty panels. Additionally, with the launch of ISX in June 2013, the hood hinge was redesigned to provide
clearance to the new cooling package. However, some trucks were built with the incorrect (older) hinge. No interference
would be observed because the hood is positioned too far forward. Once the cross-member position is corrected, trucks
built with the older hinge will have an interference condition with the cooling package, so the old hinge needs to be
swapped with the new hinge (3565264C3).
In summary:
1. The front cross-member was positioned incorrectly from an unknown start date until 7/18/2013.
2. The incorrect hood hinge was used on some trucks starting with the implemention of Cummins
ISX on
6/11/2013 through 7/21/2013.
3. Once positioned correctly, the hood can still come in contact with the cab modesty panel due to positioning of the
modesty panel support bar.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Inspect the front cross-member.
2. If it is mounted to the rear of the mega-brackets as shown in Figure 1, it is mounted correctly. Move to step 7.
3. If it is mounted to the front of the mega-brackets, it is mounted incorrectly.
4. Detach the hood hinge from the front cross-member (the hood does not need to be removed during the
following operation, it can be propped or supported at the front while the cross-member is repositioned).
5. Disassemble and reassemble the cross-member such that it's in the position as shown in Figure 1.
6. If the truck was built prior to 6/11/2013, reattach the hood. The job is complete.
7. If the truck was built on 6/11/2013 or later, inspect the hood hinge.
8. Refer to Figures 2 and 3 to determine if it is the old or new hinge.
9. If it is the new hinge, reattach the hood. The job is complete.
10. If it is the old hinge, replace the old hinge with the new hinge (P/N 3565264C3).
11. Reattach the hood, the job is complete.

With the hood now in the correct position, there is still a possible interference with the cab modesty panel. The support bar
that mounts to the hood bracket and the modesty panel is currently mounted to the outer side of the hood support bracket
(Figure 4). To increase clearance to the hood, move the support bar to the inner side of the hood support bracket (Figure
5).
