Complaint:
The front glass roof of the panoramic roof is jammed or cannot be opened, or the drive unit of the glass roof makes
rattling noises
Cause:
Damage/degradation of the roof mechanism and/or the drive unit
Remedy:
If one of the above problems occur, it is necessary to replace the components listed below. Any damage or degradation of these components can cause new damage to the replacement parts of the panoramic roof during operation.
Components to be replaced:
- Roof mechanism on left and right [EPC item 160 (BR117, W176, C292), 310 (X156, BR222), 140 (BR205, X253)]
- Guide tube for drive cables of pop-up roof [EPC item 330 (BR117, W176, C292), 90 (X156), 210 (BR205, X253), 240
(BR222)]
- Check drive unit of glass roof [EPC item 70 (BR117, X156, W176, C292), 240 (BR205, X253), 110 (BR222)] and replace if necessary: The drive unit of the glass roof must be subjected to a visual inspection (after cleaning). If the drive
pinion shows the slightest signs of wear on the teeth, then the drive unit must also be replaced.
If it is not possible to access the bolts at the front of the glass roof [EPC item 175 (BR117, W176, C292), 140 (X156,
BR222), 270 (BR205, X253)], proceed as follows:
Unplug connectors of both drive motors, use a suitable tool to operate the emergency override of the drive unit (Figure 1, shown on the X253; on other models it may be necessary to lower the headliner) and open the glass roof far
enough to allow access to the bolts of the glass roof. When doing this, have a second person push the glass roof upwards and backwards while supporting it at the front and rear.
