Complaint:
Vehicle battery is discharged. A voltage < 3 V is present at the terminals.
Cause:
The on-board electrical system was operated with the engine off. This activated the undervoltage protection in the battery, causing an internal switch to open which prevents further discharge. This internal switch (discharge circuit breaker) must be closed in order to charge the battery.
NOTE: The lithium-ion battery cannot be tested with the Midtronics tester!!!
Remedy:
The following steps are necessary in advance in order to allow the battery to be charged again using a conventional
charger:

Jump-start the vehicle.
Operate the vehicle for approx. 10 min with the engine running (charging voltage >14V to close the DCB).
Connect battery charger (charging voltage 14 - 14.4V).
Erase fault memory in SAM-F and read out fault memory again.
If the fault code B1FC249 (The lithium-ion starter battery is defective) is now present, the battery must be replaced.
If there is no fault code, recharge the battery completely.
