Complaint:
Creaking noises from the area of the air suspension strut on the front axle when driving over bumps with the steering

turned.

Topic only reported from outer wheel until now.
Cause:
When cornering, the axle kinematics can result in contact between components inside the suspension strut, which

can cause creak or knocking noises. In order to rectify this effect, some vehicles are factory-fitted with square tapered

washers (see Figure 1).

In individual cases, however, noises may still occur depending on the tolerances of the components.
Remedy:
a) If the noise occurs at the suspension strut on the outside when cornering - replace the square tapered washer of

the outer suspension strut.

b) If the noise occurs at the suspension strut on the inside when cornering - replace the square tapered washer of the

inner suspension strut.

Note:

The installation position of the washer is defined by the positioning of the bolt holes and by the labeling.

Important:

As in some cases a square tapered washer may have been installed on each side at the factory, the work may only

be performed on the suspension strut which exhibits the problem. Otherwise noises may also occur on the other side.
