Bucket tappets make clacking noise
Cause:
The attachment contains various sound recordings to help with troubleshooting:
1. Rattling noise from a camshaft adjuster
2. Rattling noise from several camshaft adjusters
3. Clattering noise / cup tappets
Remedy:
Run engine at a maximum of 3000 rpm up to operating temperature (80 °C engine oil)
Check oil level and correct, if necessary
Heat engine oil up to 100 °C and hold there for 2 minutes
Allow engine to idle until engine oil temperature is < 95 °C
Assess noise again
Re. 1./2.:
Check adjuster and actuate per Xentry
Replace affected adjuster(s), if necessary

Important:
Even if only one camshaft adjuster is replaced, it is absolutely essential to set the timing on both cylinder banks.
Re. 3.:
Disassemble cylinder head cover, check bucket tappets
Bucket tappets weak => replace affected bucket tappets only
Bucket tappets worn and mechanically damaged => Replace all bucket tappets on both cylinder banks, replace all
camshafts on both cylinder banks, change engine oil and oil filter
