This service bulletin applies to fire apparatus equipped with winches built
between 2008 and 2013.

CONDITION:

Winch may be mounted incorrectly.

CORRECTION:

Replace winch support and mount winch correctly.

LABOR ALLOCATION: 10 Hrs.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Thoroughly review entire service bulletin before starting work. If there are questions or concerns
with steps defined in this service bulletin, contact Spartan Motors USA, Inc. Customer & Product
Support Group.
All applicable industry safety standards must be followed when performing work identified in this
procedure.
Steps outlined below represent the overview of instructions for disassembly of front bumper and
install of new winch bracket. Certain variations will be required for each install to achieve the
same end goal depending on apparatus configuration.
Inspect and replace any fasteners damaged or corroded while completing this install.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Disconnect winch wiring from chassis at point of use.
2. Disconnect wiring from sirens, lighting, & etc., where applicable.
3. Remove screws from top of gravel shield connecting front bumper face. Label and retain for
reuse.
4. Remove front facing screws connecting front bumper face to bumper extension. Label and
retain for reuse.
5. Remove and retain Warn winch from current winch bracket assembly.
6. Remove and retain Warn fairlead roller from current winch bracket assembly or winch.
7. Follow install document for each specific truck for rotating winch clutch lever, where
applicable.
8. Install new winch bracket following install document. Torque hardware 75 lbf-ft.
9. Install retained Warn winch with fairlead rollers following install document. Use new
hardware provided. Torque 7/16” hardware to 50 lbf-ft for locations attaching winch to
bracket.
10. Reconnect Warn winch wiring.
11. Reinstall retained front bumper face. Torque fasteners 75 lbf-ft.
12. Attach front bumper face to gravel shield using retained hardware. Torque fasteners 30 lbfft.
13. Reconnect any wiring removed in step 2.
14. Test winch functionality.
15. Touch-up paint where applicable if scratches occur during install.
