DESCRIPTION

Notches in the oil dipstick tube may be confused as the ADD and FULL markings.
SYMPTOMS






Driver complains of oil consumption

Engine oil level found overfull

Engine oil level found low
RESOLUTION

If there is any complaint about engine oil consumption by a driver, you will need to have the driver explain to you how the oil level is checked,

and where the oil level is being filled to. If the engine oil level is found to be low, or the engine is being serviced, this will show you exactly

where the oil level should be for proper engine operation.

Fluid Check and Fill Notes
Caution:

Use only the recommended viscosity engine oil. Refer to the Engine Operation and Maintenance Manual for engine oil specifications. Failure

to heed this caution may result in vehicle and/or engine component damage




Wait five minutes after shutting off the engine before checking the oil level. This gives the oil time to drain back to the oil pan.

Clean all caps and fill plugs prior to removal to prevent dirt and debris from entering system.
Keep oil level between the ADD and FULL marks. Never operate an engine with oil level below the ADD mark.

To obtain an accurate engine oil level reading the vehicle must be parked on a level surface with the engine off for at least five minutes before

checking the oil level. This will ensure the oil is level in the oil pan, and the circulated oil has had a chance to return to the pan. It is not

necessary for the oil to be hot to obtain an accurate reading.

When checking the oil level, the dipstick must be withdrawn and wiped clean, the inserted all the way and again withdrawn for a true check.
