Title : CF and CityStar Tranmission Troubleshooting
Applies To : CF and CityStar Units with 5R110 Transmissions
DESCRIPTION
When troubleshooting the CF 5R110 transmission, you should follow the troubleshooting in the book S13036 for your codes, but if transmission slips, has metal in oil, if
oil smells like it has been hot, or clutch or seal damage is suspected, you should go directly to the steps below.
1. The first thing to check is the frame grounds on the passenger frame rail. The ground from the battery goes to the engine block
, then to the frame. The other ground
connection on the passenger frame rail is between the pdc, and the splash guard. If there is paint on the frame at these connections it needs cleaned off.
2. On transmissions with the PTO gear option 13ALA, you need to check the transmission breather to make sure that the end of the breather hose is not sitting in a
place where it might be submerged in water. This can cause the trasmission to suck in water as it cools. See pictures below:
