Title : SCR Fluid Filter Replacement
Applies To : Cummins ISX, Navistar N13 Diesel Exhaust Fluid System

DESCRIPTION
The Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) filter should be replaced with an updated filter only on vehicles marked on the Service Portal in the Managed Repair Field "DEF Filter
Replacement at Next Service". See example below:

This is not a Proactive Repair. This service should be performed at the next scheduled service visit or PM. Vehicles should not be taken out of service unless scheduled to
do so. Claims for this service may be filed under 01 warranty only.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1) Remove side skirt and side skirt mounting brackets if equipped to access DEF fluid tank .

2) Clamp off coolant lines
3) Disconnect Vent Line
4) Remove DEF Lines
• Squeeze sides of white quick release ring and lift quick disconnects off of stainless steel tubes
5) Remove Coolant Lines and label for ease of installation
• Loosen hose clamps
• Push Coolant lines off stainless steel barbs
6) Remove Nylon tie from DEF Tank Wire. This will allow the tank to be tipped outward to access the DEF head assembly.

7) Remove the four DEF tank mounting bolts. (Support tank as necessary)

8) Tilt the DEF Tank module about 30 deg to access the header unit.

9) Remove the six DEF Head Assembly retaining screws and save for re-use. Additional screws are provided in the kit if necessary.

NOTE: Use caution when removing the DEF Head Assembly from the tank. Sensor damage can occur if the unit is dropped or bumped.
10) Carefully lift the DEF Head Assembly from the tank tipping the assembly as required to completely remove the assembly from the
tank.

NOTE: If the filter has come apart, it does not need to be removed from the DEF tank.
11) Place assembly on a clean work surface.
12) Remove the filter retaining clip and discard.

13) Remove original filter and O-ring from the tube.
14) Verify new filter has O­ring in place.
15) Remove the retaining clip from the new filter (pre-installed) Carefully install new filter onto the tube with O-ring contacting bead on
tube.
16) Secure with new Retaining Clip provided with filter, verify filter is secured by pulling filter down slightly. Filter should stop against
retaining clip

NOTE: Use caution when installing the DEF Head Assembly into the tank. Sensor damage can occur if the unit is dropped or bumped.
17) Carefully reinstall head assembly back into DEF tank with the new gasket provided, aligning the rubber grommet with the molded
boss in the bottom of the DEF tank.
18) Secure The DEF head assembly with the six retaining screws.
• Apply PTFE thread sealant (Loctite 565 or equivalent) to the six DEF torx screws
• Cross Tighten Torque to 3.4Nm minimum
19) Tip DEF Tank module back into place on frame brackets.
20) Reinstall original bolts and secure to 193- 237Nm / 142-174Ft LBS.
21) Reinstall DEF lines into original position.
22) Reinstall Coolant lines in original position torque clamps to specs and remove clamps.
23) Reinstall Vent line
24) Secure tank wire harness bundle with nylon tie as shown below.

25) Mark or indicate on the DEF tank that the DEF filter has been updated. Also mark the MRC as being complete below.
