Bus Door Rework – Add Backup Plate to Stop Tab
MODELS INVOLVED:
CE Bus, RE Bus
DEFECT DESCRIPTION:
On certain bus models, the mechanical door stop may bend out of position resulting in
over travel limit switch allowing continuous running of the electric motor.
ELIGIBILITY:
This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles marked in the International® Service PortalSM
with FSC 16123. Also complete any other open campaigns listed on the Service Portal
at this time.
TOOLS REQUIRED:
No special tools are required for this procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
NOTE: Dealership will need to contact the Bendix Tech Line at 1-800-247-2725 for
parts (no charge). Refer to the WARRANTY CLAIMS section of this document for
instruction on parts reimbursement regarding this campaign.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING! To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, park
vehicle on hard flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and install
wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from moving in both directions.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, always wear safe eye
protection when performing vehicle maintenance.
WARNING! To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, keep
flames or sparks away from vehicle and do not smoke while servicing the
vehicle’s batteries. Batteries expel explosive gases.
1. Park vehicle on flat surface.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brakes.
3. Install wheel chocks.
4. Unlock access panel above entry door by rotating pins.

5. Open access panel to expose bus door module mechanism (Figure 1).
6. Set electric bus door module in manual mode by pulling red handle to the left.

7. Rotate entry doors to about halfway closed. This will allow clearance between
bell crank and stop tab (Figure 2, Item 1).
8. Inspect door module mechanism to determine if Support Bracket (Figure 3, Item
2) has already been installed.
a. If bracket is present, proceed to Step 14.
b. If bracket is not present, proceed to Step 9.
9. Using an adjustable wrench, bend stop tab back to approximately 11 degrees
from perpendicular.
10. Remove two bolts (Figure 2, Item 2) on right side of door module. Save fasteners
for reuse.

11. Place support bracket (Figure 3, Item 2) into position and slide to left against stop
tab (Figure 3, Item 1).
12. Hold bracket in place and loosely install previously removed bolts (Figure 2, Item
2).
13. Using a torque wrench, tighten the two reinstalled bolts to 21 - 27 lb-ft (28 - 37
N•m).
14. Move red handle to the right.
15. Turn ignition key to accessory position and push OPEN button to actuate door.

16. Once door is fully open, verify motor is off and that top pin is contacting switch
(Figure 4). If pin is not contacting switch, repeat Step 9, readjust support bracket
to contact stop tab, and retest door operation.
17. Close cover and rotate pins to lock.
18. Remove wheel chocks.

WARRANTY CLAIMS

NOTE: Enter $10.00 in the “Outside Charges” section for markup on part.
Warranty claim expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the
normal manner, making reference to Field Service Campaign 16123.
Section 7 of the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual contains further information
related to the submission and processing of AFC / Recall claims.
As with all claim submissions, items acquired locally must be submitted in the “Other
Charges” tab. The cost of any bulk items (such as a bag of cable tie straps, roll of wire,
barrel of oil, or tube of silicone) should be prorated for the cost of the individual pieces /
amount used during each repair.
To make sure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for
16123 activity must be submitted by 20 October 2017 or within the normal warranty
period for the component, if after 20 October 2017.
