DEFECT DESCRIPTION
The fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to
activate. In certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with
enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. If
a fire extinguisher does not function properly, it is possible that someone could
be injured or killed in a fire.
MODELS INVOLVED
This Safety Recall involves certain 2000-2001 International® 4700; 2000-2002
4900; 2001-2003 8100 (TranStar®) and 9100i; 2002-2003, 2005, 2007-2009,
2012-2014 and 2016-2018 DuraStar®; 2012 and 2014-2017 ProStar®; 20142015 TerraStar®; and 2018 International® LT® Series model trucks equipped with
Kidde model FC5 and FC10 fire extinguishers identified by International part
numbers 1696423C2 and 1696423C3 and installed post production at Navistar’s
Truck Sales Processing Center (TSPC).
ELIGIBILITY
This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles in which the customer has received a
letter for NHTSA Recall 17V-792 or Transport Canada Recall 2017-618. Also
complete any other open campaigns listed on the International® Service PortalSM
at this time.

Push-Button Fire Extinguishers
Push-button fire extinguishers: The recall involves eight models of Kidde push-button fire extinguishers
manufactured between August 11, 1995 and September 22, 2017. The no-gauge push-button extinguishers were
sold in red and white, and with a red or black nozzle. These models were sold primarily for kitchen and personal
watercraft applications.

Plastic Handle Fire Extinguishers
The recall involves 134 models of Kidde fire extinguishers manufactured between January 1, 1973
and August 15, 2017, including some models that were previously recalled in March 2009 and in
February 2015. The extinguishers were sold in red, white and silver, and are either ABC- or BC-rated.
The model number is printed on the fire extinguisher label. For units produced in 2007 and beyond,
the date of manufacture is a 10-digit date code printed on the side of the cylinder, near the bottom.
Digits five through nine represent the day and year of manufacture in DDDYY format. Date codes for
recalled models manufactured from January 2, 2012 through August 15, 2017 are 00212 through
22717. For units produced before 2007, a date code is not printed on the fire extinguisher.
