DESCRIPTION
Navistar has decided to perform a proactive repair to increase customer uptime by replacing the A/C
condenser before it may fail. The suspect population are certain International® LT® Series trucks with a sleeper,
an ON / OFF fan drive, without a No Idle HVAC system, and operate for extended idle periods. The vehicles in
this proactive repair are determined by the vehicle configuration at time of manufacture, the idle time on the
engine, and the vehicle data received by Navistar using OnCommand® Connection.

ELIGIBILITY
This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles marked in the International® Service PortalSM with AFC 18901. Check
and complete any other open campaigns also at this time.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
WARNING: To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, park vehicle on hard
flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and install wheel chocks to prevent the
vehicle from moving in both directions.
WARNING: To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, if the vehicle must be
raised, do not work under the vehicle supported only by jacks. Jacks can slip or fall over.
WARNING: To prevent personal injury and / or death, always wear safe eye protection when
performing vehicle maintenance.
WARNING: To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, keep flames or
sparks away from vehicle and do not smoke while servicing the vehicle’s batteries. Batteries
expel explosive gases.
1. Park on flat surface.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brake.
3. Install wheel chocks.
4. Remove grille from hood.
5. Unlatch and open hood.
6. Inspect A/C condenser for signs of prior replacement.

7. Inspect condenser mounting pads.
a. If both sides of condenser have rubber isolators / slots for isolators (Figure 1, Item 1 and 2), then
condenser does not require replacement. Proceed to Step 12.
b. If only driver-side isolator / slots for isolators are found (Figure 1, Item 2), condenser must be replaced.
Proceed to Step 8.
8. Recover A/C system, refer to appropriate Service Manual for detailed instructions.

9. Remove A/C condenser, refer to appropriate Service Manual for detailed instructions.
NOTE: The new condenser comes with 4 new rubber isolators. Do not reuse the rubber isolators from
the old condenser.
10. Install new condenser, refer to appropriate Service Manual for detailed instructions.
11. Evacuate and charge A/C System, refer to appropriate Service Manual for detailed instructions.
12. Close and latch hood.
13. Install grille.
14. Remove wheel chocks.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE
Expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the normal manner, making reference to
Authorized Field Change Number 18901.
Section 7 of the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual contains further information related to the submission
and processing of AFC / Recall claims.
As with all claim submissions, items acquired locally must be submitted in the “Other Charges” tab. The cost
of any bulk items (such as a bag of cable tie straps, roll of wire, barrel of oil, or tube of silicone) should be
prorated for the cost of the individual pieces / amount used during each repair.
To ensure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for 18901 activity must be
submitted by 5 February 2019 or within the normal warranty period for the vehicle, if after 5 February 2019.
