Background
PACCAR does not endorse any particular fuel additives. Due to the sheer number of additives on the market, it is impossible
to test and certify every one of them.
Additives should have a statement that says it is compatible with ULSD (ultra-low sulfur diesel) fuel and Aftertreatment
systems.
Use ULSD compatible additives only when necessary.
Additives that are not ULSD compatible can affect aftertreatment performance and longevity.
The following statement is from the PACCAR MX-13 and MX-11 Engine Operator's Manuals:
Recommendations to Avoid Fuel Gelling
Information to prevent fuel gelling.
Use appropriate fuel grade/blend for conditions.
Specify vehicle with proper cold weather equipment (12v electric pre-heater, fuel blending valve, fuel coolant heater,
12v line heaters and tank heaters).
PACCAR does not recommend the use of fuel additives, however, should a customer decide there is a need for
temporary use of a winter fuel additive, PACCAR offers the following guidance:
Use an industry known, high quality product (EPA approved).
Only use the additive for the minimum time needed.
Follow additive manufacturer's instructions exactly.
Refuel with proper grade fuel as soon as possible.
Additives should only be used per manufacturer's recommended mix ratios. Adding more than necessary can cause harm to
fuel and aftertreatment systems, which is not covered by warranty.
