Headliner Assembly Loose/Sagging at Rear of Sunroof Opening

Models:

2011-2012 Buick Regal
Equipped with Sunroof (RPO CF5)

This PI has been revised to add the 2012 model year and change the Labor Operation to the Global Labor Code (GLC).
Please discard PI0590.

Condition/Concern
Some customers may comment that the headliner assembly is loose and/or sagging at the rear edge of the sunroof opening.
This condition may be caused by the hook and loop fastener adhesive failing, allowing the headliner to become separated from the sunroof housing.

Recommendation/Instructions
Use the following steps to replace the hook and loop fastening system with three magnet assemblies.

1.

Remove the three hook and loop fasteners from the headliner assembly at the rear of the sunroof opening. Slide the fasteners out of the attachment
slots in the headliner assembly.

Remove any foam attachment tape and adhesive from the sunroof housing. Use a general purpose adhesive cleaner to remove all of the adhesive
residue.

3.

Locate the three attachment clip mountings on the headliner assembly.

4.

Using a paint pen or permanent marker, mark a 5 mm (3/16 in) area at the front edge of the three clip attachment slots as shown.

5.

Use a small file or rotary bit on a die grinder to lengthen the attachment slots as shown. Use care to prevent over cutting the material.

6.

Install the three new service magnets in the attachment slots. Position the magnets in a fore/aft location to ensure the magnets sit flat on the sunroof
housing flange.
Note: The front edge of the magnets may overhang the edge of the sunroof housing.
